Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be in shape to join?

Not at all. Thats like saying we need to be smart, before we enrol in school. Additionally, I don’t believe we are ever in shape—simply because the state of our body is simply a reflection of our lifestyles. So, if training is too difficult, it’s less the case that one is ‘out of shape’ and more the case that they are adapting a new lifestyle and the body is therefore in an adaptation phase.

I can’t get hurt but want to learn.

Nothing to fear here. Injuries occur when mistakes are made. Mistakes are significantly mitigated when training is centred around education not machismo.

What style is best to learn?

The best style to learn, is the one that resonates with you most. Try several Martial Arts…see which one excites you and makes you smile.

When do I spar?

When you’ve passed your beginner test and demonstrated sound physicality, basic technique, and an affable attitude. Sparring is not competition. It is merely another learning module done in a dynamic way. So I tend not to include those who share the same intentions.

Do you train fighters?

No. I train students of mine who wish to compete. Freelance training isn’t my lane.
