Intro to instructorship
Sundays: June 18, 25th, July 9th, July 16th
12-1.30pm
Course Objectives
In this introductory course, we aim to accomplish basic outcomes as you begin the journey to teaching:
To be able to have a good conversation about craft with others, which involves understanding and articulating different aspects of the craft.
To overcome imposter syndrome, which is a common feeling of inadequacy or self-doubt that can affect confidence and performance.
To know how to create good technique, which entails developing the skills and knowledge necessary to create effective and impactful work.
As speech is often the first point of contact between you and potential students, both online and offline it is critical that new instructors excel at the basic skill of communication.
We do this by starting a conversation about training within ourselves. We will explore questions such as:
What is 'training'?
What is a 'trainer'?
What problems does a trainer solve?
How can we solve them?
By discussing these topics, we hope to develop our ability to communicate with the public about training and create trust as teachers.
Course Format
The program consists of both an online and an offline component.
Our in-class sessions will focus entirely on physical skills
Online component will be delivered via audio lectures as an expansion to reading material covering theoretical concepts. Delivered at the beginning of the week via Google docs, these lectures can be listened to throughout the week.
Following each lecture, we will hold a brief discussion and feedback session in class, during which you will have the opportunity to offer ideas and expand on the concepts covered.
